JOB SUMMARY
The Manager of Specialized Claim Services (SCS) will be a member of the SCS leadership team that is responsible for the successful management of claims professionals, compliance with PDA business standards and goals, and ensuring the delivery of quality services to clients. This is a management role with direct supervision a team of Technical Claims Consultants. This position will work our of Maine office, but will be remote in the beginning due to COVID-19.

- Provides technical expertise and leadership for assigned claims team(s) and clients.
- Develops and maintains strong working relationships with clients, ensuring they receive high quality services from PDA staff.
- Cultivates customer relations and conserves profitable business by resolving challenges presented by clients and their customers, and by identifying and developing new service approaches.
- Ensures compliance with HR policies and practices, including administering company policies in all areas, establishing performance plans and discussions, ensuring employee development, and providing support, guidance, leadership, and motivation to promote maximum staff performance.
- Works closely with leadership to establish and implement business plans for the SCS.
- Other duties as assigned.

BUSINESS PARTNERING AND REPORTING
- Reports directly to VP, Client Services.
- Partners closely with leadership, TCC’s and clients.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree plus 6+ years of disability claims experience, preferably overseeing the day-to-day operations of a business segment.
- Strong understanding of underwriting/claim and other risk concepts as well as medical terminology.
- Strong background in group insurance with marketing resourcefulness and technical expertise.
- Proven ability to balance strategic direction with day-to-day work responsibilities.
- Strong track record of collaborative partnerships, both internally and externally, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be adept at Microsoft Office programs in order to do reporting, presentations and analysis.
- Experience successfully managing others, or demonstrated leadership abilities with the aptitude to manage others, including training/mentoring, conflict resolution, etc..

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. Physical requirements on a regular basis of this role include:
- Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
- Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word in which one must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly.
- Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and make fine discriminations in sound.
- Visual: Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading.
The SCS Manager, is an exempt position with approximately 30% travel requirements.
